Did you guys see it? If the words tacky and awkward passed your mind, then you're actually on the right track. You're better at interior decorating than you thought. It's not that they have bad looking furniture or their room is kind of messy. But there are just certain things in decorating and arranging that doesn't help at all. So, here's five decorating mistakes that make your room look tacky or overdone that you can actually avoid. Number one, everything's uniformed. Same color, same pattern, same design, same everything! It actually looks like a set from a cartoon show. Your accent pillows don't have to match your sofa. If you have a cloth covering your coffee table, it doesn't have to match. The curtains, I'm sorry, doesn't have to match the exact same color, too. Don't make them all the same.Just because it's the biggest color in the room, that doesn't mean your other decor should follow it too. You also don't need to buy furniture sets. Some people could pull it off. But more often than not, it makes your room look plain and boring. The solution is to mix-and-match but in a right way. For more in-depth lesson, you can actually check out this video. Number two, no carpets on the living room. There's actually a reason why carpets and rugs exist, not just because they feel nice on our feet, but they actually bring furniture together in a space. Like together forever. Look at these photos without carpets or rugs, it feels like the coffee table is lost and doesn't belong there. It's sticking out of the living room and not in a good way. When you place a carpet, the furniture in your living room doesn't look scattered. Look at how it brings everything together! It fills out the empty, awkward space. Just make sure all the legs of your furniture are inside, or if it's a small rug, just the front legs of your sofa will do as long as the coffee table is in the middle. Your rug should be at least six to eight inches wider than your sofa on both sides. And a thirty to thirty-six inches of walkway between the furniture. If your living room can't allow it, eighteen to twenty-four inches of walkway can do. Number three, choosing dark furniture for a small room. Like, what? Why would you even do that? It's like wearing black. We wear black because we look slimmer. Actually, it also applies in interior decorating, too. Change up your furniture with light, neutral colors. Choose wood furniture that are on the light side like; Cedar, Ash, Cypress, Elm, or Sonoma Oak. Mandaue Foam has a lot of choices for light wood furniture. So, small room owners, you're safe. Number four, pushing furniture against the wall. Like, they're afraid of each other. Or they don't want to talk to each other When you do that, it's like making the middle part of your room gloomy or haunting It's like you're in a horror movie. But when you come into the room, it's like everything is empty. It's so scary Or like you're in a doctor's clinic. Now your guests are just sitting there, waiting for their number to be called It's like that Pull the furniture away from the wall to make a conversation area. It will make your space look intimate and in balance. Surprisingly, it makes your room look bigger, too! Putting contrasting pieces together. You can actually see that some decors or accents don't complement each other But it's okay if you don't have an eye for that. It's actually safe if you ask for a second opinion Or maybe a third Or even a fourth. Or go ahead, ask for a lot of opinions. Actually, the best way to know is when something catches your attention, But it's not actually nice, but kind of distracting. For an in-depth lesson about this, please check this video. I know it's just on how to pick throw pillows that will look good together, but it will teach you about color coordination. So your mixing and matching will look cohesive and not an eye-sore. And oh, one more thing. Furniture that's too large for the room. I'm not saying that you can't buy large furniture anymore because you have a small living room. There are just situations that need it like your home lacks storage, so it is reasonable to buy a big chest of drawers or towering cabinets. The trick is to not have them all in the same room because it’s going to make your space tight. If you have a large family but a small room, a group of 1 seater or two seater sofas can make better use of the space than a sectional one. But there are also three seater and L-shape sofas that are small-scaled than the average size. Those are the sofas that you have to find. Make sure you also pair them with the right sizes of a coffee and side table or else your space will be overwhelming. And now we’re done with all the uglies!
